Cedar City man dies while being booked into Iron County Jail

SALT LAKE CITY — A Cedar City man died Saturday while being booked into the Iron County Jail, the sheriff’s office said.

Officers arrested Justin Anderson, 49, just before 6 p.m. on drug-related charges and transported him to the jail. During the booking process, Anderson began experiencing a “medical episode,” according to the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.

Jail workers and Gold Cross ambulance staff rendered aid but Anderson died at the jail.

The county’s critical incident task force, sheriff’s detectives and the state medical examiner’s office were called to conduct an investigation. Anderson’s body was sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause and manner of death.
