SALT LAKE CITY — A man sentenced to prison in 2014 for killing a local singer is facing new charges.
Quincy Earl Lawson, 25, of Magna, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault by a prisoner, a first-degree felony. The charge is subject to increased penalties due to Lawson being a habitual offender, according to charging documents. Torlando Sabu Morris, 23, is listed as a co-defendant.
On June 15, during recreation time at the Utah State Prison, Lawson attacked his cellmate with Morris’ help, the charges state.
The cellmate received numerous puncture wounds and lacerations, including five cuts to his face, one to his rib cage, two to his left arm, two to his shoulder, and 13 to his head which required 36 staples to close, according to the charges.
In 2014, Lawson was arrested for fatally shooting the singer of a band at a nightclub during a concert as the singer was helping his brother, the promoter, kick Lawson out. He eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter and was sentenced to 1 to 15 years in prison.
