SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert met with media for the first time Friday since he was the first NBA player to test positive for the novel coronavirus in March, which led to the league getting suspended.
Gobert touched on a number of topics, including how he feels about playing in Utah, how he’s dealt with being the first player in the league to test positive and his relationship with Donovan Mitchell.
On his relationship with Mitchell and building a title contender in Utah
I asked Rudy Gobert if anything that has transpired between him and Donovan would make him not want to be in Utah and he said No. What matters to him is that he loves living and being in Utah and he wants to win a championship with the Utah Jazz.

Gobert said that he believes in what the Jazz are building with Quin Snyder and the team and he doesn't think that's something easily found. He said that right now there's no reason why he wouldn't want to be in Utah.

Rudy echoed what Donovan said yesterday. They are two competitors and they want to win and their relationship is fine and they're ready to play. Said that no relationship with a teammate is perfect.

Gobert on Mitchell: "As long as we respect one another and both share the same goals and we both do what’s best for the team, that’s what matters. I think over the last few years that’s what we’ve been doing and that’s what we plan on continuing doing."

Rudy Gobert: "Yes it’s not perfect, yes a lot of things happened, but I still don’t take anything for granted. ...I think in the future it can still be great for myself so, no. I don’t plan on leaving right now. I plan on winning a championship with Utah."

Rudy Gobert: "I love living here, that’s the No.1 thing. No. 2 thing, I want to win...with Quin and the things we’ve been building over the years, it’s something that you don’t see anywhere else, that’s something I take a lot of pride in."
