WEST JORDAN — West Jordan police believe a fire inside a car near Jordan Landing on Friday that claimed the life of a 29-year-old man was the result of a suicide.
A West Jordan firefighter headed to work about 11:20 a.m. was the first to come across the burning Toyota Prius, according to West Jordan Police Lt. Rich Bell. He found smoke billowing out of the car parked to the side of Jordan Landing Boulevard, near 7500 South.
The door of the vehicle was locked. The firefighter used an extinguisher to break a window and attempted to put the fire out, Bell said. After other fire crews arrived and the flames were put out, the body of a man was found inside.
Investigators believe an accelerant was used on the fire, he said. Bell said the car was also full of assorted items and it appeared the man may have been living in the vehicle.
