Smoke visible from I-15; public asked not to report
PLEASANT GROVE — A new fire ignited Sunday in Battle Creek Canyon east of Pleasant Grove, officials said.
The fire, which was reported about 12:30 p.m., was estimated at 20 to 30 acres by midafternoon, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Three fire engines and multiple air tankers were fighting the blaze.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
Smoke is visible from I-15 and cities in Utah County, officials noted, asking people not to call in and report the fire.
Kiwanis Park in Provo is closed to the public until further notice by firefighters as they are working in the area, the Pleasant Grove Fire Department tweeted.
“Aviation resources will be operating in the area of #BattleCreek. Please keep safe distance away from operations and do not fly any drones or personal aircraft near the incident,” Pleasant Grove firefighters tweeted.
