FARMINGTON — The investigation into the death of a Fruit Heights woman who police say was stabbed and thrown from a moving vehicle continued Tuesday.
Shilo Marie Stewart, 34, was killed after Utah Highway Patrol troopers say she was stabbed multiple times while driving on I-15 near Lagoon and then thrown out of the vehicle while it was still traveling at freeway speed.
Davis County Jail
Oscar Cuevas-Landa, 18, of West Valley City, was arrested and booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of murder and aggravated assault resulting in serious injury.
The incident happened about 9:50 p.m. Sunday. Cuevas told investigators he did not know Stewart and that she was giving him a ride to West Valley — even though their vehicle was headed north — when she “looked at him funny, so he stabbed the victim several times,” according to a police affidavit.
Cuevas was arrested a short distance away in Farmington. Additional details about how the two people came to be in the same car were still being investigated Tuesday.
Formal charges against Cuevas were also pending Tuesday.
