English professor and author Chris Crowe awarded the Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Award, BYU’s most prestigious faculty honor

PROVO — BYU President Kevin Worthen honored 47 faculty, staff and coaches for unique and outstanding service to the school during its University Conference on Monday.

“Each has demonstrated exceptional competency and sacrifice in their work. I honor each of them and express my personal appreciation to them.”

Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Award

This award, BYU’s most prestigious faculty award, is provided through the generosity of the Karl G. Maeser Scholarship Society. The recipient must have demonstrated clear superiority in both scholarship and teaching.

Christopher E. Crowe, English.

Crowe is the author of six books for young adults, two of them about the murder of Emmett Till in 1955 that was a major motivation for the Civil Rights Movement. His book “Mississippi Trial 1955” won the 2003 International Reading Association Award for Young Adult Novel.

Ben E. Lewis Management Award

This award recognizes an administrative employee for outstanding management abilities.

Elizabeth J. Norton, Psychology

Fred A. Schwendiman Performance Award

This award recognizes a staff employee for exemplary contributions to the university through consistent and superior service.

Anna G. Bailey, English Language Center

President’s Appreciation Award

This award recognizes staff and administrative personnel for exceptional service, creativity and competence.

Alumni Professorship

This award honors faculty members for teaching excellence. The award carries a three-year stipend made possible by the generosity of the BYU Alumni Association.

Larry J. Nelson, Family Life

Abraham O. Smoot Citizenship Award

This award is presented to university faculty members who have demonstrated sustained service and personal sacrifice to the BYU community.
