Letter: The COVID-19 pandemic is a wake-up call to become better people

Volunteers Erik Johnson, right, and Jennifer Harkin test people for COVID-19 in the parking lot of the Maverik Center in West Valley City on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020. The free testing was set up for residents of Kearns, Magna, Taylorsville, West Valley City or the west side of Salt Lake City. | Jeffrey D. Allred, Deseret News

In the wake of the coronavirus, which shattered us in almost every way during the last couple of months, vulnerability and sorrow have been bitter and deep. I assume every season serves a purpose, though. On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic, with its adversity, transformed our lifestyles and approach to living immensely. Nobody has ever spent this amount of time at home. It has been an entirely different phase where we changed our priorities and acknowledged our family bonding. We are more concerned about financial stability and have solemn concerns about our careers.

Amid the pandemic and its curse, we now have strengths to bear the worst of circumstances. We have courage to face rejection of requested opportunities, and most importantly, we now can understand the daily problem every person is facing relating to ourselves and have courage and willingness to help them.

Let’s consider it a wake-up call and strive to survive again as better humans.
