Taco Bell is testing a new taco with a white corn shell

Taco Bell is experimenting with a new taco called the Cantina Crispy Melt Taco, but you may have to look hard to find it.

What’s going on?

• Taco Bell has started testing to the new crispy melt taco in the Detroit area.
• The taco — which uses a fried white corn shell — is “filled with melted nacho cheese sauce and three-cheese blend, seasoned beef, reduced-fat sour cream, lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese and diced tomatoes,” according to Chewboom.
• The vegetarian option swaps the beef for black beans.
• The taco costs $1.99.
• It’s included in a new $5 box that adds a beef chalupa supreme, crunchy taco and a medium drink, per Chewboom.

Changes to the menu:

Taco Bell announced in mid-July that it would be removing 12 “old favorites” from its menu so that it could add new products. A new, simplified version of the menu was set to debut on Aug 13, as I wrote for Deseret.com.

• “This evolved menu approach comes after months of analyzing the new way we are running our restaurants. With safety top of mind, we want to ensure an easy and fast ordering experience for our guests and team members,” the company said.

• “And while change is hard, a simplified menu and innovation process will leave room for new fan favorites, continued progress in categories such as plant-based diets, and even opportunities for the return of some classics on a limited time basis.”
