The artist has donated to organizations such as Global Aid for Lebanon and Equal Justice Initiative

In recent months, singer The Weeknd has made many charitable donations to all types of organizations. And, in continuation of that, he recently donated $300,000 to Global Aid for Lebanon, which helps victims of the recent Beirut explosion Aug. 4, according to Rolling Stone.

The Weeknd’s manager, Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, announced the donation in a post to his Instagram stating, “I am so honored and humbled to work with artists who have such deep care for the world and right now for our brothers & sisters of Lebanon who are in pain and need our collective help. I want to thank my brother @theweeknd for his generous and class act of donating $300,000 to the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign.”

Slaiby and his wife, Rita Fakih, have also donated to the fund with a $250,000 contribution, as they were both born in Lebanon. In the Instagram post, Slaiby also thanked Live Nation for their $50,000 contribution.

The singer also recently raised $350,000 for the Equal Justice Initiative through limited-edition merchandise, called Weeknd x TikTok, during “The Weeknd’s live interactive virtual concert” that took place Aug. 7 on TikTok.

The event had over 2 million unique viewers and at its peak 275,000 concurrents, according to Variety.

Equal Justice Initiative, a nonprofit, works towards “ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.” according to their website.

The Weeknd has also donated a combined $500,000 to Black Lives Matter Global Network, National Bail Out, and Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp, according to Billboard.

Also, on June 19, he donated $1 million to MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund and to front-line health care workers at Scarborough Health Network, which is located in his home of Ontario, Canada.

In an Instagram post announcing the donations, he wrote, “keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our Black lives. Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it’s a small amount.”
