Troopers ID pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on I-15 in Murray

The Utah Highway Patrol has identified the pedestrian killed on I-15 as Preston Scott Smith, 43.

MURRAY — The Utah Highway Patrol has identified the pedestrian hit and killed on I-15 in Murray early Saturday as Preston Scott Smith, 43.

Troopers were investigating whether driver impairment played a role in the incident involving an SUV about 4:30 a.m. at the top of the 4500 South off-ramp. They have not said why Smith was on the highway and did not release further information about their investigation Sunday.

Another driver followed the white SUV and called 911 to report it was being driven recklessly, according to a Department of Public Safety news release.

Murray police found the SUV and stopped it.
