Two charged in kidnapping, beating of Tooele man, police say

TOOELE — Two men accused of crawling into another man’s house through a window, kidnapping him and severely beating him were charged in Tooele Thursday.

Jason Gleed, 57, and Dalton James Romero, 26, both of Tooele, were each charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary, both first-degree felonies, and aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony. Gleed received additional charges of drug possession, a class A misdemeanor, and drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanors.

During a traffic stop on Wednesday, police found the two men and a bedsheet over the third man’s lap, according to charging documents. A baseball bat was also spotted in the car next to Romero, the charges state. Officers then found the third man had “a severe laceration to his head that went all the way to his skull,” the charges state. The man was taken to a local hospital.

Investigators learned that Gleed and Romero had broken into the victim’s residence by crawling through a window and assaulted him allegedly because of a dispute over a stolen gun, the charges state. They then forced the victim to go in their car with them, according to charging documents.

Detectives searched the victim’s residence and found blood “in the kitchen, bedroom, hallway, and the front door toward the street. Shoe prints were found on the window sill, hallway floor and kitchen floor,” the charges state.

The footprints had blood on them, according to the charges.

Search warrants were also served on Gleed’s apartment and Romero’s vehicle, according to the charges.
