Deaths reported Monday include first in Ute Tribe

SALT LAKE CITY — State health officials reported Monday that five more people have died of COVID-19 in Utah and an additional 249 tested positive for the virus.

It’s a continuation of a downward trend in confirmed cases over the last several days as the number of people tested also declines.

Those whose deaths were reported Monday — three women and two men — lived across the state and outside of populous Salt Lake County. They include the first Ute Indian Tribe member confirmed to die of the virus, a woman older than 60 who lived in Fort Duchesne and was being treated in Provo.

The illness caused by the new coronavirus has now claimed the lives of 390 Utahns, the Utah Department of Health reported.

Statewide, a total of 49,364 have tested positive for the novel coronavirus so far, out of 626,354 people tested. The Monday report included 1,518 new test results.

The rolling seven-day average of confirmed cases held about steady at 350 per day, with a rate of positive tests up slightly from a day earlier, to 8.9%.

The Monday report said 130 are currently being treated in a hospital, up to a total of 2,926 since the beginning of the outbreak in Utah and an increase of 15 from a day earlier.

The health department estimates that 41,164 people with known infections have recovered after passing more than three weeks since a diagnosis.

More information on those whose deaths were reported Monday:

  • A Davis County man between age 45 and 64 who was in a hospital.
  • A San Juan County man older than 85.
