SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man who police say started two fires outside fast food restaurants in South Salt Lake has been arrested.
Steven Hunter, 46, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated arson.
About 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, a man was reported to be trying to start fires near KFC, 2435 South State, according to a police affidavit. That man then walked to Astro Burger, 3877 S. State.
“Officers arrived on scene and found a large box full of garbage on fire, right in front of the north door, under the pavilion. The fire was burning from the ground all the way up to the ceiling of the pavilion. The suspect was sitting next to the fire when officers arrived on scene. The Astro Burger restaurant was open and had employees inside of it at the time of the fire,” the affidavit states.
According to court records, Hunter has been charged in 15 misdemeanor cases from Box Elder to Salt Lake since May, mostly for trespassing.
