This election cycle has been marked by a large number of athletes and teams encouraging people to vote, in good part as a reaction against Donald Trump.
In recent days, however, a growing number of prominent sports figures — albeit none that are currently playing — have released statements endorsing Trump.
Last week, 91-year-old former Florida State head football coach Bobby Bowden released a statement saying he had recovered after contracting COVID-19 and urged people to vote for Trump.
“I’ve had the chance to get a lot of wins in my life, but I really wanted to win this one because I wanted to be around to vote for President Trump,” part of the statement reads.

On Oct. 28, golf legend Jack Nicklaus released a similar statement. He concluded it by writing, “I strongly recommend you consider Donald J. Trump for another 4 years. I certainly have and have already cast my vote for him!”

Then on Friday, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre posted a tweet outlining why he is endorsing Trump.
“My Vote is for what makes this country great, freedom of speech & religion, 2nd Amnd, hard working tax paying citizens, police & military,” he wrote. “In this election, we have freedom of choice, which all should respect. For me & these principles, my Vote is for @RealDonaldTrump.”
