Salt Lake Police Chief Mike Brown passes a trowel to Mayor Erin Mendenhall as they plant daffodil bulbs to honor victims of domestic violence outside of the Public Safety Building in Salt Lake City on Wednesday. Data gathered by the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition shows that since 2000, 42% of adult homicides in Utah were domestic-violence related, and a firearm was a weapon in 59% of those cases. Wednesday’s daffodil planting event was part of Week Without Violence, the YWCA Utah’s annual campaign to end gender-based violence.
