Layton man, 71, accused of sexually abusing girls 2 decades ago

LAYTON — Criminal charges were filed Thursday against a Layton man accusing him of sexually abusing two neighbor girls two decades ago.

William Craig Mitchell, 71, is charged in 2nd District Court with forcible sexual abuse and three counts of sexual abuse of a child, all second-degree felonies.

Mitchell inappropriately touched two girls who were 11 years old on multiple occasions between 1999 and 2000 while they were at his house, according to charging documents. One girl first reported the incidents to police in 2017, the charges state.
