We watched a few episodes of “This Is Us” before the Season 5 premiere. Here are our thoughts

The “This Is Us” Season 5 premiere is set to air Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Having never seen “This Is Us,” I dropped in to watch three random episodes of the TV show to get a taste of the series and share my thoughts on whether I think it’s worth watching. The first four seasons are currently available on Hulu.

The show’s Hulu description reads: “From the writer and director of ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ comes a smart, modern new dramedy that will challenge your everyday presumptions about the people you think you know.”

Content advisory: “This Is Us” is rated TV-14, according to IMDB. The series contains adult problems, language, kissing, partial nudity, drinking and smoking, according to Common Sense Media.

‘Series Premiere’

Season 1, Episode 1

Hulu description: “Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown and more star in the ensemble drama about a group of people who share the same birthday and so much more than anyone would ever expect.”

  • One of the first things I noticed about “This Is Us” is the star-studded cast, including Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia, whom I know best as Jess Mariano from “Gilmore Girls.” It was cool to see these actors come together for this show.
  • I feel it is important to note that this episode contained partial nudity, mild language and some suggestive material, so this series is probably best for adults.

‘The Wedding’

Season 2, Episode 18

Hulu description: “Season finale. It’s Kate and Toby’s wedding! Wedding planners Kevin and Randall struggle to pull off the big day; Kate is flooded with memories of Jack; Deja struggles to adjust to her new living situation.”

  • If you’re going to watch “This Is Us,” be sure to keep a box of tissues handy. This drama is not short on touching, tear-jerker moments.
  • The characters in this show deal with a variety of relatable issues in life and relationships. For this reason, I think the series could appeal to a diverse audience, and just about everyone could find something they connect with on the show.

‘So Long, Marianne’

Season 4, Episode 9

Hulu description: “The Pearson family gathers for their first Thanksgiving at Randall’s Philadelphia townhouse.”

  • This series includes frequent flashbacks and glimpses into the future, which can be a little confusing at times. But for the most part, everything seems to come together and make sense in the end.
  • Something that really stands out after watching three episodes of “This Is Us” is that family is the central theme. It is obvious that family is of paramount importance to the characters, and I love that.

Is it worth watching? Yes. It was easy for me to become invested in this show and its characters, based on the three episodes I watched. I already have plans to continue watching the series.
