Woman was kidnapped in Utah, ended up in West Virginia, charges say

HOLLADAY — A West Virginia man faces criminal charges in a bizarre kidnapping investigation that started in Utah.

Stanley Brent Farley, 77, of Camp Creek, West Virginia, was charged Wednesday in Utah’s 3rd District Court with kidnapping, a second-degree felony.

In July, a woman was pulled over in Roanoke, Virginia, in a car with Utah license plates. The car was registered to Farley, whose address at that time was in Salt Lake County, according to charging documents.

A Unified police officer went to Farley’s listed Salt Lake County residence where a relative said Farley had been staying there but left a week earlier after getting into an argument, and the relative hadn’t heard from him since, the charges state.

On the same day Farley left, a 52-year-old woman waiting for a bus in Holladay was offered a ride by Farley, whom she did not know, according to the charges. She also accepted a drink Farley offered her that was in a cup, police say.

“(She) said she believed she was drugged because when she woke up, they were (in) Park City and then Wyoming,” according to the charges.

The woman said she told Farley to take her back to Salt Lake City. But he kept driving and the woman “remembered being in Illinois and Kansas,” the charges state,

The woman told investigators that her cellphone wouldn’t work and she accused Farley of switching SIM cards.

The woman said she ended up in a motor home in Camp Creek, West Virginia “and Farley kept her drugged the whole time she was there,” according to charging documents.

One day when Farley was asleep, the woman said she took his car keys and fled. She said she kept driving until she was pulled over in Virginia.

Police in West Virginia are investigating claims that the woman was sexually assaulted while she was there, according to Unified police. No missing persons report was filed in Utah while the woman was gone.
