Coronavirus: Utah responds to the pandemic

Utah has seen 127,279 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 649 total deaths as of Friday, according to the Utah Department of Health. That’s an increase of 2,987 cases from Thursday. 17 new deaths were reported.

Here are the latest numbers.

• Total number of COVID-19 cases: 127,279
• Total reported people tested: 1,136,826
• Total COVID-19 hospitalizations: 5,922
• Total COVID-19 deaths: 649
• Single-day high for reported cases: 2,807 (Nov. 5)
• Single-day high for reported deaths: 17 (Nov. 6)

Recently

• “The spread is happening in our homes and it is killing people and overwhelming our hospitals,” Gov.-elect Spencer Cox said Thursday, imploring that people exercise proper precautions in their homes such as social distancing, mask-wearing and washing of hands if an uncle, neighbor, grandchild or friend pops by.
• On Saturday, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert called Utah’s situation “critical” after the state reported 1,724 new cases.

Worldwide

Globally, the novel coronavirus pandemic has now infected 48,534,508 and killed 1,231,017 people as of Friday, according to the World Health Organization.
