Joe Biden creates a Fortnite map in latest campaign move

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden stumps in Fortnite ahead of the 2020 election.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden recently released a new custom map in the video game Fortnite in what is the campaign’s latest push to speak with young voters.

• Biden’s camp released a new map called “Build Back Better,” which can be found in the Creative mode in the game.
• The map includes a No Malarky Station. It can be found in Reboot City.

Gamers can play single adventures that last about 20 to 30 minutes. The challenges include installing 5G towers, restoring a river from industrial waste and collecting sneakers for the vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

• “We see interactive, digital-first experiences like gaming as an opportunity to bring our campaign to a new place and platform,” said Christian Tom, director of digital partnerships for the Biden campaign, in a statement to USA Today. ”With voting underway and days until Election Day, we are continuing to meet people everywhere they are online and offline with innovative and thoughtful activations.”

Flashback:

The Biden campaign previously released a virtual yard sign on “Animal Crossing.” The campaign said it was a move to help meet voters online, as I wrote about for the Deseret News.

Tom told The Verge the game was chosen for a specific reason.

• “‘Animal Crossing’ is a dynamic, diverse, and powerful platform that brings communities together from across the world. It is an exciting new opportunity for our campaign to engage and connect Biden-Harris supporters as they build and decorate their islands. As we enter the final campaign stretch towards November, this is one way we are finding new creative and innovative ways to meet voters where they are and bring our supporters together.”
