The news, airwaves and social media are full to bursting covering the COVID-19 virus. There is hope for vaccines, but realistically they are still many months away, as the proven scientific process must be allowed to play out to ensure they are effective and safe for all people, irrespective of age and health status. And then there’s the time and availability factor of vaccinating populations of millions and billions.
In the meantime, there’s no lack of debate on what is necessary vs. what’s not to stem the virus’ spread. The only real consensus is, “We’re so done with this!”
So, what do people do when they are at wits end, even feeling desperate? Naturally, a cry goes heavenward for “help” — or more curtly insists, “Dear God, please do something!” Has prayer and asking for God’s help, His mercy, and healing hand become somehow obsolete — or seemingly censured to mention in our mortal means of commentary and communication — as a solution to a national/world crisis?
Our forefathers and mothers were quick to bend a knee through the Great Depression, world wars, assassinations in the ’60s, etc. Were major newspapers’ editorials not suggestive of this simple act just a decade or two ago? Is this not a nation that has pledged to be “one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”?
