In the world of college football recruiting, star rankings are seemingly always a matter of debate from one prospect to another and from one publication to another.

That said, Orem offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia reached rare status Monday, especially for prospects from the state of Utah.

Rivals, one of the leading recruiting websites in the country, updated its rankings for prospects around the nation Monday, and Suamataia was elevated from 4-star to 5-star status.

How rarefied is the air that Suamataia, who is committed to Oregon, is now in? After Monday’s update, Rivals now has just 26 players in the entire country listed as 5-star prospects (Suamataia is ranked No. 23).

Additionally, the 6-foot-5, 280-pound Suamataia becomes just the third prospect from Utah to reach Rivals 5-star status since 2005. Last year, Suamataia’s Orem teammate Noah Sewell, who is having an excellent freshman season at Oregon, got the top designation, and former USC linebacker Porter Gustin did in 2015 during a great prep career at Salem Hills.

Suamataia is still designated as a 4-star prospect by the other leading recruiting site, 247 Sports. Sewell and former Brighton standout Osa Masina in 2015 are the only prospects from Utah to ever receive 5-star designation from that site.
