Utah sees another 5 deaths from COVID-19 and 1,722 more cases

SALT LAKE CITY — Another 1,722 Utahns tested positive for COVID-19 and an additional five people died of the disease, according to numbers released Sunday by the Utah Department of Health.

The new numbers raise the death toll to 868 and the total number of people infected since the pandemic began to 193,809.

The rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 2,354 per day, health department data shows, with the seven-day average for percent of positive laboratory tests at 21.4%

The state reported 6,143 test results Sunday. More than 1.4 million Utahns have been tested for the disease.

There are 564 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19. Total hospitalizations from the beginning of the outbreak are 8,076.

The five deaths reported Sunday were: three Utah County men, two between 65 and 84 and one over 85, all hospitalized at the time of death; a Weber County woman age 65-84 who was hospitalized at time of death; and a Salt Lake County man over 85 who was a long-term care facility resident.
