Woman arrested after shooting boy in leg with bow and arrow, police say

WEST JORDAN — A woman was arrested after she allegedly shot a boy in the leg with a bow and arrow in West Jordan, police said.

Officers were called to a home in the area of 7800 S. 5200 West mid-afternoon Friday on the report of a stabbing, said West Jordan Police Sgt. Adam Julian.

When they arrived, they found a boy with a “fairly significant wound to his leg,” Julian said. The sergeant did not disclose the boy’s age.

Chelsie Marinos Huggins, 38, came out of the home willingly and was taken into custody, Julian said. Police believe Huggins and the boy live in the same home, but details about their relationship has not been released.

The boy “stated he was shot by a bow and arrow by the adult suspect,” according to a police affidavit written in support of Huggins’ arrest.

“Witnesses on scene stated the suspect was on the roof of her residence, when she got into a verbal altercation with the juvenile male individual. Witnesses stated the suspect had a rifle and handgun with her while she was on the roof, pointing at the juvenile victim,” the affidavit states.

The witness told police she saw the boy get hit with something, but did not hear gunshots, according to the affidavit.

“It was found the juvenile victim was shot in the left leg by an arrow by the female adult suspect causing serious bodily injury. Witnesses heard the adult female tell the juvenile male to not come back or she would kill him,” according to the affidavit.

Huggins was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault and child abuse inflicting serious physical injury intentionally.
