Coronavirus: Utah responds to the pandemic

Utah has seen 198,216 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 890 total deaths as of Tuesday, according to the Utah Department of Health. That’s an increase of 2,510 cases from Monday. Nineteen new deaths were reported.

Here are the latest numbers.

• Total number of COVID-19 cases: 198,216
• Total reported people tested: 1,432,225
• Total COVID-19 hospitalizations: 8,279
• Current COVID-19 hospitalizations: 575
• Total COVID-19 deaths: 890
• Single-day high for reported cases: 4,588 (Nov. 20)
• Single-day high for reported deaths: 26 (Nov. 25)

Recently

• The state reported 2,043 COVID-19 cases and 14 more deaths on Saturday. “While the seven-day average has fallen since it reached above 3,000 cases earlier this week, it’s too early to tell if the state is seeing a decline in cases as testing facilities were closed on Thursday, and some are running with reduced hours over the holiday weekend,” according to the Deseret News.
• On Friday, the state reported a two-day total of 6,142 new COVID-19 cases and 15 additional deaths in Utah. Numbers were not reported on Thursday, the Thanksgiving holiday.
• Utahns can anticipate a “June or July time frame” for COVID-19 vaccines, a health official said. Dosages will be available first for high-priority groups such as hospital staff.

Worldwide

Globally, the novel coronavirus pandemic has now infected 62,844,837 and killed 1,465,144 people as of Tuesday, according to the World Health Organization.
