Victor Robinson’s search for spirituality led him to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while incarcerated in a California correctional facility. His story was recently highlighted in an article on the church’s newsroom website.

Victor is one of many adults in custody whose lives have been positively affected by the church’s Prison Ministry efforts. The program encourages individuals to attend worship services, study the scriptures and develop a supportive relationship with local Latter-day Saints.

As a 13-year-old, Robinson was caught stealing from a local grocery store to feed his siblings and spent his teenage years in various juvenile correctional facilities.

At age 18, Robinson became involved in gang-related activities and was in prison when he learned his older brother had been murdered. The tragedy led to a poor self-image and more violence.

“It sent me on a downward slope,” he said of his brother’s death.

When an officer patrolling the prison yard collapsed from heat exhaustion, Robinson assisted her and felt a new desire to change and live a better life.
