LAYTON — A man who police say caused rib and leg fractures to his 2-month-old son has been charged.
Noah Talsma Jr., 20, was charged in 2nd District Court with child abuse, a second-degree felony.
Talsma’s son was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital on May 7 after a primary care physician found a spiral fracture on the right tibia, according to charging documents.
At the hospital, two rib fractures were also found in addition to two other ribs that were already in healing stages, the charges state. “The doctor concluded that the fractures are ‘highly concerning for inflicted injury and child abuse,’” according to charging documents.
On Dec 2, Talsma was interviewed by police and “admitted that he caused the injury to the child’s leg. (He) said that the child would not stop crying and out of frustration, he pulled on the child’s leg and heard it ‘pop,’” the charges state.
In a police affidavit following his arrest, Talsma said he “freaked out” after causing the injury and waited two days before taking the child to the doctor.
