Letter: COVID numbers don’t give enough data. Could we also know why?

The data about the surge in hospitalizations due to COVID-19 is starting to be meaningless to me. I ask the question to myself, “Why the surge?”

I wonder if, upon being checked into the hospital, it could be ascertained if the patient was following the suggested health recommendations. Were they wearing masks? Did they practice social distancing? Did they follow the recommendations given by the doctors, epidemiologists and specialists? To me, this data, published along with the number of COVID cases, would have more meaning.
