One part of Alex Smith’s recovery from a gruesome leg injury has been turned into a what could be considered an inspiring piece of art.
Smith’s wife, Elizabeth, shared a photo Sunday of his leg brace, which has now been sculpted into a makeshift Lombardi Trophy — the championship trophy in the NFL.

Smith, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft out of the University of Utah, has become a virtual lock for Comeback Player of the Year, returning to the field less than two years after the devastating injury to get his Washington Football Team into playoff contention. Heading into a Sunday matchup with Philadelphia, Washington needed a win to grab the NFC East title and the No. 4 playoff seed in their division.
Entering Week 17, Smith had led the Football Team to a 4-1 record in five starts, though he missed the previous two weeks with a calf injury. He’s thrown for 1,420 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions this season.
