Andy Reid ‘disappointed’ that Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy not hired as a head coach.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy wasn’t selected for one of the six NFL head coach openings this year, which means he will stay with Kansas City through the next season. It was the third straight year that Bieniemy applied for a vacant head coaching position.

“I’m glad I have him (for at least another season), but I’m not so glad I have him,’’ Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, according to ESPN. “I was really hoping he would have an opportunity to take one of these jobs. You guys know what I think of him. I think he’s great. I think he would be great for any number of teams that opened up and help them win football games and also develop men into men. I just think he’s a great person.”

Bieniemy has been with Reid and Kansas City since 2013, when he was named running backs coach. In 2018, he was promoted to offensive coordinator. He got his start in the NFL in 2006 as running backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings. Under Bieniemy, the Chiefs have had one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL, though Reid handles primary play calling duties.
