CHARLESTON, Wasatch County — A three-vehicle accident near Deer Creek Reservoir killed one person and sent at least six others to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to Utah Highway Patrol public information officer Chris Bishop, the accident involved a minivan that rolled and two other vehicles.
Five people were inside the minivan, and one of those passengers was killed. Four other occupants were transported to hospitals in serious condition, Bishop said.
Additionally, two other people — one from each of the other vehicles involved in the crash — were taken to hospitals with serious injuries, he said.
Both directions of U.S. 189 were closed Friday afternoon at milepost 24, about a mile south of Charleston, while investigators tried to piece together what led to the deadly crash. Investigators estimated the road would be closed for at least four hours, which meant the road could be open as early as 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.
