CNN broadcaster Larry King didn’t die from COVID-19, according to his wife, Utah’s Shawn King

Legendary CNN broadcaster Larry King passed away last weekend at the age of 87, and there were several reports that suggested it might have been due to COVID-19. But his wife, Utah’s own Shawn King, revealed the true cause of death.

  • “It was an infection, it was sepsis,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Well, he was finally ready to go, I will tell you that. You know, he never wanted to go but his sweet little body was just, it had just been hit so many times with so many things and once we heard the word COVID, all of our hearts just sunk. But he beat it, you know, he beat it, but it did take its toll and then the unrelated infection finally is what took him, but boy, he was not gonna go down easily.”

Shawn King said she had a chance to speak with her husband before his death, too.

  • “We were able to do FaceTime in the hospital and it was hard for him to talk, but the one message that he wanted to make sure I heard was, ‘I love you, take care of the boys,’” she told Entertainment Tonight.

It wasn’t COVID-19?

  • CNN reported that King had been hospitalized for more than a week with COVID-19 back in December.
  • King had multiple heart problems throughout his life. In fact, back in November 2019, he had been in a coma and suffered a stroke, as I wrote about for the Deseret News.
