WOODS CROSS — A woman working at a lumberyard in Woods Cross had her arm amputated Thursday when her clothing got caught in a piece of machinery, according to police.

The incident happened just after 1 p.m. at Utah Wood Preserving, 1959 S. 1100 West. A 48-year-old woman had a piece of her clothing get stuck in a wood stacking machine resulting in her right arm being crushed in the gears and amputated above the elbow, said Woods Cross Assistant Police Chief Adam Osoro.

Other employees were able to push an emergency shutoff button preventing the woman from being even more injured than she was, he said. The co-workers then cut her clothing to free her from the machine before police and South Davis fire crews arrived to give her medical attention.

The woman was flown to a local hospital by a medical helicopter where she was in critical but stable condition, Osoro said.

Osoro said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the incident.
