An elderly man dies in a hit-and-run in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — A 78-year-old man was hit while crossing the street around midnight Saturday night.

Witnesses reported seeing a silver SUV hit the man at 200 West and 400 South. The man was crossing without a signal to cross and the vehicle that hit him reportedly drove away, Salt Lake City Police Lt. Brian Sloan said.

He said the man was taken to a hospital where he died.

The man’s name was not yet released, pending notification of family.

Police have no leads on the vehicle involved in the accident and an investigation is ongoing, Sloan said.
