The pollsters agree: Corner Canyon football is GOOD. Really good.
The Chargers came in at No. 8 in MaxPreps’ final top 25 national high school football composite rankings released earlier this week, the second-best western U.S. team behind only No. 7 Chandler High in Arizona.
MaxPreps’ composite rankings were based on the final high school rankings from four sources: MaxPreps Top 25, USA Today’s Super 25, High School Football America and CalPreps. Three of the rankings had the Chargers in the top 10 — CalPreps (No. 4), MaxPreps (9) and USA Today (10) — while High School Football America ranked Corner Canyon No. 15.
That gave the Chargers a composite ranking average of 9.5, which was 0.5 behind Chandler.
Corner Canyon rolled to its third straight state championship in 2020 — two at the 6A level, one in 5A — including a 45-7 win over Lone Peak in the state championship game. The Chargers won by an average of 31 points this season, going 14-0.
Corner Canyon averaged 49 points per game, led by MaxPreps National High School Player of the Year Jaxson Dart. The dual-threat quarterback threw for 4,682 yards and 67 touchdowns this past season while also rushing for 1,195 yards and 12 more touchdowns. Dart, the 2020 Deseret News Mr. Football, signed to play collegiately at USC.
