All events — skills challenge, 3-point contest, slam dunk contest and game — will take place on the same day
On Thursday, the NBA officially announced that the 2021 All-Star Game will be held on Sunday, March 7, in Atlanta.
All of the All-Star festivities will happen on one night on TNT, beginning with the skills challenge and 3-point contest at 4:30 p.m. MST. The All-Star Game will begin at 6 p.m. MST with the dunk contest taking place at halftime.
“NBA All-Star in Atlanta will continue our annual tradition of celebrating the game and the greatest players in the world before a global audience,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. “In addition to the festivities on the court, the All-Star Game will honor the vital role HBCUs play in our communities and focus attention and resources on COVID-19 relief, particularly for the most vulnerable.”
The NBA and National Basketball Players Association announced that more than $2.5 million will be committed to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and to support awareness of COVID-19 relief and vaccines and communities disparately impacted by the coronavirus.
The All-Star Game will follow the same format as last year, which was met with widespread praise. Teams will compete to win each quarter and playing to a final target score during an untimed fourth quarter.
All-Star starters will be announced tonight, Thursday, 5 p.m. MST on TNT with the reserves to be announced next week.
