PRICE — A Carbon County registered sex offender arrested last week was charged Monday with rape, a first-degree felony.
John Adam Bird, 41, of Helper, previously served prison time for rape, but now faces the same charge in 7th District Court accusing him of raping a 15-year-old.
Bird is accused of taking the teenage girl to a remote area of Carbon County at night and raping her in his car in December, according to a police affidavit.
“The 15-year-old female said she told him no and to stop multiple times,” the affidavit states.
Afterward, Bird warned the girl not to tell anyone what had happened because of his status as a sex offender, according to the affidavit. Bird was on parole at the time of his arrest.
In 2006, he was convicted of rape and forcible sodomy in Uintah County and was sentenced to one to 15 years in the Utah State Prison, according to court records. He was also convicted that year in a separate case of lewdness. Bird is required to register with the state as a sex offender.
Bird was arrested and booked into jail on Thursday.
