A pair of players in Utah whose teams will participate in the NCAA Tournament have been named honorable mention All-Americans by The Associated Press.
BYU guard Alex Barcello and Utah State center Neemias Queta were among 42 players nationwide to receive the honorable mention honors on Tuesday.
Barcello, a senior from Arizona, is averaging 15.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game for a Cougars team that is a 6-seed in the Big Dance. Queta, a junior from Portugal, is averaging 15.1 points, 10 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game for an Aggie squad that is an 11-seed in the tournament.
Both players received all-conference first team honors, and Queta was also named the Mountain West Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in his three-year career at Utah State.
Iowa’s Luka Garza, Baylor’s Jared Butler, Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu, Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham and Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert were named First Team All-Americans by the AP.
