Former BYU running back Jamaal Williams is set to become an unrestricted free agent when the NFL’s new league year begins Wednesday.

On Monday, he took to Instagram to thank the team and fan base — the Green Bay Packers — that have embraced him the past four seasons, a sign he’s likely to sign elsewhere.

“Thank you Green Bay for accepting me and letting me grow into the Man I am today and still thriving to be,” Williams wrote on Instagram. “I have nothing but RESPECT and LOVE for everyone who works in the Packers facility from Players, Coaches, all the employees that work in Lambeau, and the fans!! I’m going to miss It all, cherish all my memories, and keep striving for Greatness. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and excited to grind for what I want but nothing but love GB it’s been real .”

On Sunday, the Packers reportedly agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal with Aaron Jones, the team’s star running back, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That, along with Green Bay drafting running back AJ Dillon in the second round last year, are strong indicators Williams will not be returning to the team.

Williams was drafted by the Packers one round ahead on Jones in the 2017 NFL draft. During the past four years, he has rushed for 1,985 yards and 10 touchdowns while also catching 122 passes or 961 yards and eight more touchdowns.

During the 2020 season, Williams ran for 505 yards, with a 4.2 yards-per-carry average and two touchdowns while adding 31 receptions for 236 yards and a score.
