The Los Angeles Chargers believed in former BYU cornerback Michael Davis enough in 2017 to sign him to a rookie undrafted free agent contract, and he made that trust pay off by starting 35 games over the past three seasons.
The Chargers are showing trust in him again, as NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the Chargers are re-signing Davis to a three-year deal that includes $15 million guaranteed.
#Chargers are retaining CB Michael Davis on a three-year deal, source says. Big keep for them, as he had interest from a handful of teams.

Davis was set to become an unrestricted free agent when the NFL’s new league year begins Wednesday, and he would have been one of the top cornerbacks on the open market — Pro Football Talk had Davis rated the No. 36 overall free agent available this offseason.
The 26-year-old Davis became an ever bigger priority to the Chargers when the team released fellows starting cornerback and two-time Pro Bowler Casey Hayward last weekend.
Davis started 26 games over the past two seasons at left cornerback and has 157 tackles, 32 pass deflections, five interceptions and a forced fumble in four NFL seasons.
He had a breakout season in 2020, finishing with a career-high 62 tackles, three interceptions — one he returned for a touchdown — and 14 pass deflections.
