WELLINGTON, Carbon County — Wellington City administrators announced Friday they were switching their police chief from paid leave to unpaid leave.
But the city continued to remain silent on what type of investigation is being conducted into Chief Rory Bradley.
On March 18, the city announced in a brief prepared statement that Bradley had been placed on paid leave “pending the process of a personnel action.”
The statement did not say why or when he was placed on leave. It also stated that “a motion will be made and a vote will be taken about his future with Wellington City” at the city council meeting which was held on Thursday.
Both Bradley and his father are City Council members but were absent from Thursday’s meeting.
According to ETV News in Price, Wellington City Attorney John Schindler told the council on Thursday that there were new developments in the investigation into Bradley. He then advised the council to delay voting on Bradley’s employment until a future meeting to give time for the new information to be considered, the news outlet reported.
Friday afternoon, the city issued another brief two-sentence statement.
“Effective April 1, 2021, Wellington City Police Chief, Rory Bradley will be placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the process of a personnel action and active investigation. No additional information regarding this matter is available at this time.”
Bradley has been chief since 2018. In 2019 he was recognized by the Utah Department of Public Safety for his efforts in rescuing victims trapped inside a Mexican restaurant after a semi plowed into the building.
