The first reported high school basketball player to commit to the Utah State Aggies under new head coach Ryan Odom is thought to be a trailblazer for another reason.

Muzamil Ameer Hamoda, whom Verbal Commits reported Friday pledged to the Aggies, hails from the nation of Bahrain in Asia (population just over 1.7 million people).

According to a report last year when Hamoda left Bahrain to play at Bridgton Academy, a postgraduate prep school in Maine, he became the first athlete from the country to get a scholarship to play at a school in the United States.

It’s not clear when Odom and his staff, which worked at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County before going to Logan, began recruiting Hamoda.

According to multiple outlets, Hamoda stands 6-foot-6, and video shows he has a lengthy and athletic build.

It’s not clear if he holds offers to play collegiately at other schools, although it does appear he is part of the Class of 2021 and thus would arrive in Logan rather soon should he indeed sign with the Aggies.
