Letter: Burgess Owens’ harsh language continues to divide America

I was quite dismayed to hear the harsh language used by Rep. Burgess Owens on the national Fox News recently.

He called President Joe Biden a “dictator.”

As for Black Lives Matter, the movement seeking to stop police shootings of African Americans, Owens said this: “They hate God. They hate capitalism and they hate the family.”

This is the kind of language that led to the horrific Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol. We should be able to agree to disagree without this kind of ugly language that serves to divide America at a time when we need desperately to heal.

As the Founders explained, democracy only works if everyone involved puts it before party or personal gain. Owens should be reminded that this is not a football game with winners and losers. We are all in this together.
