High school baseball: 5A/4A/3A/2A state tournament roundup from Friday’s games

5A first round

Bonneville 16, Hillcrest 8

Despite entering the 4A playoffs with the last seed, Bonneville kept its season alive with a strong performance at Hillcrest in the 5A first round. Kole Minnoch led the way for the Lakers as he went 2 for 3 with six RBIs, while Kole Story went 3 for 5 with three RBIs.

Viewmont 2, Highland 1

Jessen Layton went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Heber Jenkins struck out 11 on the mound as Viewmont edged Highland for the 5A first-round victory.

Payson 10, Mountain View 0

Payson took a commanding 6-0 lead heading into the top of the second inning and continued the lead through four innings to win the 5A first-round game. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Payson added four runs. Mason Alvey threw four strikeouts and only allowed Mountain View one hit.

Park City 15, East 5

Ryan Hunt had three RBIs and a home run while Braxton Lyon earned the win on the mound as Park City defeated East in the 5A first round.

Box Elder 11, Timpview 1

Parker Buchanan went 3 for 3 with an RBI while Alex Griffin went 3 for 4 with a double and triple as Box Elder rolled past Timpview for the 5A first round playoff victory. Ryan Griffin struck out eight to pick up the victory on the mound.


4A super regionals (Game 2s)

Snow Canyon 11, Cedar City 1

Landon Frei went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI and then on the mound dominated for five innings, only allowing one run on two hits as Snow Canyon wrapper up its super regional series with Cedar City with a 2-0 advantage.

Pine View 17, Sky View 6

Pine View’s remained red hot in Game 2 of its super regional series with Sky View as the Panthers dominated en route to the 2-0 sweep to advance to the next round. Traton Staheli went 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs, while Luke Iverson added a double and triple with two RBIs.

Stansbury 12, Cedar Valley 1

Stansbury got production one through nine in the batting order in Game 2 against Cedar Valley as it easily prevailed for the 2-0 sweep in the 4A super regional series. Stansbury used four different pictures to earn the victory, with the quartet combining to strike out seven batters.

Ridgeline 5, Uintah 4 (9)

After Ridgeline forced a ninth inning by matching Uintah’s one run in the eighth, Evan Webb hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Ridgeline the narrow victory. Ridgeline pitchers Cam Bott and Tanner Bernhardt combined for 11 strikeouts.

Crimson Cliffs, 7, Bear River 6

Tate Maynard went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs as Crimson Cliffs edged Bear River in Game 2 to tie the series at 1-1 and force a third game in the 4A super regional series. Brexten Starley picked up the victory for the Mustangs as he scattered seven hits over six innings and battled through walking five batters.

Dixie 8, Green Canyon 2

Grayson Erickson only allowed two runs over six innings as Dixie battle back from yesterday’s Game 1 loss with a win in Game 2 to force a Game 3 in the 4A super regional. Brieten Oaks had a great day at the plate going 2 for 2 with a triple, walk and three RBIs.

Mountain Crest 11, Juan Diego 1

Mountain Crest dispatched Juan Diego in just four innings. Seven different players recorded at least one RBI for the Mustangs, helping them take one step further in the 4A state tournament.

Desert Hills 6, Canyon View 3

Chandler Reber drove in two runs and Kaden Terry pitched seven strong innings as Desert Hills beat Canyon View in Game 2 of their 4A super regional series to complete the two-game sweep.

4A super regionals (Game 3s)

Bear River 7, Crimson Cliffs 6

Bear River scored two runs in the seventh inning to come from behind and take the victory over Crimson Cliffs in Game 3 of their 4A super regional series. Jarett Giles had three RBIs and a double while Talon Marble took the win on the mound for the Bears.

Dixie 9, Green Canyon 2

Led by Boston Vest, who went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and then a great day on the mound from Cayson Bell, Dixie beat Green Canyon for the second time on Friday to win the 4A super regional series 2-1. Bell struck out five batters while only allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings.


3A semifinals

Grantsville 9, Richfield 8

Grantsville overcame an eight-run deficit as Richfield’s pitchers started walking batters in the later innings to advance in the 3A winners bracket. The Cowboys scored the winning run on a dropped pop up in the wind to complete the comeback.

Carbon 11, Judge Memorial 9

Carbon 8, Juab 4


2A semifinals

Parowan 11, Gunnison Valley 9

Parowan scored 11 runs on 11 hits to defeat a tough Gunnison Valley team in the 2A winners bracket. Max Topham had 2 RBI’s including a triple and double. Treven Yardley threw four innings and struck out five.

2A one-loss bracket

Beaver 13, Duchesne 10

Kanab 5, Enterprise 4
