Rowland Hall sophomore Arden Louchheim shot a 72 to win medalist honors

Rowland Hall’s strength at the top of the 2A girls golf leaderboard, not to mention some unifying face paint, were the catalysts to a state championship performance on Tuesday afternoon.

Even though defending state champ Beaver finished with the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 golfers on the leaderboard, Rowland Hall’s Arden Louchheim and Jasmine Le finished first and second respectively, and then teammates Katy Dark and Allison Mayetani did just enough further down the leaderboard to help their team claim a four-stroke victory over Beaver.

Rowland Hall finished with a 386, followed by Beaver in second with a 390.

“When it came down to it, I don’t know where those four strokes came from, but four strokes in a four-person event is quite close,” said Rowland Hall coach Miles Nollman.

Sophomore Louchheim easily claimed medalist honors as she shot an even-par 72 with a round that featured three birdies and three bogeys.

“I was really pleased. I probably left a couple shots out there, I felt like my approaches with my wedges could’ve been better. I made some good birdies and only made a couple bogeys and that makes for a pretty good round usually,” said Louchheim, who won the PGA-sponsored individual title last year after the UHSAA season was canceled.

Her goal is to finish as a four-time state champion in high school, and she’s well on her way after a dominant round on Tuesday at Rose Park Golf Course.

As excited as Louchheim was to win individually, the team title is what she was most happy about.

“For me, I play a lot of individual tournaments, so for me it’s a really awesome experience for me to get to play as a team,” said Louchheim. “It was definitely different. I was more excited about our team title than individual, and knowing that I contributed with all my teammates.”

Rowland Hall’s Jasmine Le and Arden Louchheim finished second and first respectively at the 2A girls golf state tournament at Rose Park Golf Course.

It was Louchheim’s idea for all of Rowland Hall’s golfers to put “RH” face paint on their cheeks to help with team camaraderie.

Fellow Rowland Hall sophomore Le finished second with an 82, an impressive score after they hit a rough patch on No. 10 and 11.

“Jasmine played her best round of the year. Jasmine really exceeded what she’d done earlier in the season and show what type of player she really is which is really cool to watch in this type of setting,” said Nollman.

Rowland Hall’s other top scoring golfers were senior Katy Dark with a 114 and freshman Allison Mayetani with a 118.

Nollman said he was very impressed how Mayetani kept her composure playing in a foursome with upperclassmen, while Dark had a great stretch from holes No. 2 to No. 7 with six straight bogeys. Each one of those bogeys was key in holding off Beaver.

Only three other golfers broke 100 on Tuesday, all from Beaver. Emrie Robinson shot a 94 to finish third, Abbi Burke a 96 for fourth and Amelia Harris a 99 for fifth. Jaeley Beaumont finished sixth with a 101.
