Jake Orr, a BYU-bound senior from Corner Canyon High, won the 800-meter run at the prestigious The Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Ore., Saturday.
The meet features the top high school track and field athletes in the nation.
Orr, who is 6-foot-6, covered the metric half-mile in a personal-best time of 1:50.92 to win his heat by .03 of a second over Michigan’s Miles Brown. He also had the fastest time among the five heats, which consisted of 38 athletes.
Another Utahn, Austin Klingler, was fourth with a time of 1:52.45.
Orr signed with BYU last month and will compete for the Cougars after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
