Canyon View 33, Ogden 21
Jake Garrett tossed three touchdowns, while Adrian Ward rushed for a touchdown and hauled in another as Canyon View went on the road and beat Ogden for the season-opening victory.
Duchesne 32, Milford 13
Parker Crum rushed for two touchdowns and then also passed for another as 1A’s top-ranked Duchesne dominated Milford on both sides of the ball to open the season with the victory. Ethan Park added a highlight-reel 87-yard touchdown run for the Eagles in the fourth quarter.
Snow Canyon 27, Cyprus 12
Hunter Johnson passed for 187 hards and three touchdowns and then also rushed for another scored as he played a part in all four of Snow Canyon’s touchdowns in the season-opening victory over visiting Cyprus. Brooks Esplin, Will Warner and Jake Hill all hauled in touchdowns for the Warriors.
Kearns 50, Box Elder 21
Kearns delivered a strong performance to kick off its 2021 season thanks to a strong performance from its ground game. Iosefa Toia’ivao and Naki Leha each had two rushing touchdowns for the Cougars.
Provo 7, Grantsville 2
In a crazy defensive season opener, Feitagai Lesa provided the only touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run in the third quarter, which was all the scoring Provo needed for the victory. Grantsville’s defense added a safety in the fourth quarter, but its offense could never find the end zone.
West 24, Clearfield 7
West’s highly touted defensive line recruit Dallas Vakalahi made his mark on offense Friday night, catching two touchdown passes while helping the Panthers get out to an early 1-0 start to their 2021 season.
Westlake 3, Hunter 0
Points were hard to come by in this 6A, non-region showdown, but it was Westlake who came up with essentially the bare minimum on offense and allowed its defense to do the rest. Satchiel Hepworth kicked in the games only points, helping Westlake start the 2021 season off with a win.
Spanish Fork 34, Cedar City 7
Despite amassing a staggering 135 yards of penalties, Spanish Fork secured the win in its season opener over Cedar. Tayson Reid and Cade Olsen each scored two touchdowns for the Dons.
Providence Hall 31, Ben Lomond 3
Providence Hall cruised to a four touchdown victory over Ben Lomond to kick off its 2021 season Friday night. Michael Scott had a strong night for the Patriots, finishing with four total touchdowns, including an electric 60 yard touchdown run just 50 seconds into the game.
Murray 42, Hillcrest 7
Murray jumped out to a 28-0 lead en route to an opening night win. Lance Wightman scored three times, including a pair of 45-plus-yard runs.
Orem 27, East 14
Orem’s campaign for a fourth straight state title got off to a strong start Friday night on the road against East High. Tigers’ quarterback Chase Tuatagaloa connected with receiver Roger Saleapaga for two touchdowns in what ended up being a lights-out second quarter for Orem.
West Jordan 35, Woods Cross 14
Carter Baldwin hauled in two touchdown in the first half as West Jordan’s quick start led them to a 21 point victory over the Wildcats. Boston Farmer finished with three touchdown passes, the third went to Kyle Curtis early in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Juab 37, Parowan 27
Jaub’s 30-point first half was too much for Parowan. Ryker Richards threw two touchdowns and Braden Bettridge had a 67-yard interception return.
Northridge 64, Taylorsville 0
Now a 5A school, Northridge took it to 6A Taylorsville in its opening game of the season to secure the blowout victory. Quarterback Maximus Fonoti-Maikui scored four total touchdowns for the Knights, including two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter.
Springville 41, Dixie 9
Cole Clement had five receptions for the Springville offense, two of which ended in touchdowns, while the defense forced two turnovers to help lead the Red Devils to victory in the season opener against Dixie. Gavin Cruser also finished the game with an interception return, and Seth Rigtrup recorded a rushing TD and 116 total yards on the night.
North Sevier 41, South Sevier 6
North Sevier scored 41 consecutive points to secure an opening night win. Kannin Boswell had two rushing touchdowns and Deagan Brazell and Nathan Snyder scored rushing TDs. Ryker Frischknecht threw a touchdown to Cauy Williams.
Sky View 21, Herriman 10
Sky View quarterback Garrett Zollinger threw two touchdowns and rushed for one to lead the Bobcats to the win. Davis Hall and Kimball Jackson caught the TD pass for Sky View.
Layton Christian 40, Judge Memorial 0
Layton Christian shutout Judge on opening night. Jessaia Moala scored three times, including a 55-yard rushing touchdown. Quarterback Tucker Prescott had a rushing touchdown and threw a 75-yard TD.
Lone Peak 44, Timpview 31
Lone Peak scored a pair of special teams touchdowns as it jumped out to a big lead on Timpview on then held off a second-half push by the T-Birds for the win. Luke Hyde returned a punt for a touchdown in the first half and then Takeao Hansen added a kick return score in the fourth quarter. Easton Comer was solid at QB as he rushed for a score and threw for another.
Mountain Ridge 37, Olympus 19
Cade Uluave opened the game with a 100-yard kickoff return and later in the game added a pair of rushing scores as Mountain Ridge pulled away from Olympus with a strong second half for the season-opening win. Tommy Lewis scored on a fumble recovery as well for the Sentinels in the big-play first half.
Beaver 28, Kanab 0
Beaver blanked Kanab to open the season. Tyten Falls threw two touchdown passes, both to Conner Crum, and Jayton Jessup and Cobe Carter both scored on the ground.
North Summit 20, Delta 18
Crimzon Crittenden’s two-yard touchdown run gave North Summit a 20-18 win. Crittenden scored twice in the game and Kale Hobson had a 66-yard touchdown run for the Braves.
Syracuse 20, Riverton 18
Syracuse’s defense stopped Riverton on a two-point conversion try with five minutes remaining as the Titans heled on for the defensive victory over Riverton in the season opener. Tyson Sweeten added a defensive touchdown for Syracuse in the second quarter, while Tyson Stapley hauled in a 59-yard TD pass from Jake Hopkins in the fourth quarter that extended the lead to eight points.
Timpanogos 45, Millard 26
Timpanogos pulled away from Millard with a big second half to open the season with a solid road victory.
Tooele 49, American Leadership 13
Tooele started the season strong, scoring 42 points in the first half. Mateaki Helu had two touchdown runs for the Buffaloes.
Emery 28, Carbon 16
Four different players scored a touchdown for Emery, including Koalton Curtis who recovered a block kick for a score in the two minutes of the game. The Spartans would take a double-digit lead later in the first quarter off of a Ryker Jensen run. Carbon fought hard throughout the game, rallying from the early deficit to take a lead heading into the fourth quarter. Davin Moss and Keaton Rich each found the end zone in the third period. However in the end, Emery escaped with the victory on the road behind another two touchdown runs, this time from Dane Sitterud and Derick Jensen.
Alta 34, Layton 27
BYU commit Maika Kaufusi went wild in the second quarter. Kaufusi caught three touchdown passes in the quarter, two of which went for 50 and 80 yards. The Hawks needed the big performance from its playmaker, as they survived a tough opening test from Layton and improved to 1-0.
Summit Academy 38, Cottonwood 20
Devin Watson threw three touchdown passes — two to Russell Oliver — and also rushed for a score in Summit Academy’s opening win.
Stansbury 49, Mountain Crest 7
The Stallions set the tone with an early 77-yard fumble recovery from Trot Baker, and never looked back en route to the big victory over Mountain Crest. Ezra Harris passed for three touchdowns, one of which was caught by Nate Bushnell, who rushed for another two scores of his own.
Juan Diego 52, Skyline 30
The Soaring Eagle outlasted Eagles as Juan Diego and Skyline opened their football seasons. Juan Diego outscored their opponent in each of the four quarters behind a big night from Dallas Larson. Larson finished with two touchdowns on the ground and another through the air. Four other members of his team also found the end zone while James Diego Valdez threw for two scores. Austin Okerwa totaled four touchdowns for Skyline as he tallied over 250 yards on those plays alone. Unfortunately Skyline wasn’t able to add any points after their five touchdowns, leaving them with only 30 on the night.
Wasatch 21, Park City 15
Adarius Edwards connected with Jarinn Kalama and Christopher Cook for two passing touchdowns, and then ran for a TD of his own as the Wasps edged out Park City in the season opener. Edwards finished the game with 245 passing yards in the win.
Payson 40, North Sanpete 35
Payson jumped out to a quick 20-0 lead in large part to a Rett Robinson 80-yard pick-six. North Sanpete fought back as Landon Bowles threw two touchdown passes to Tyler Allan in the final 80 seconds of the first half. After the second Allan touchdown, the Lions drove down the field in under 30 seconds before Zach Robbins made his third field goal of the night, a 52-yard bomb that would help Payson keep a multiple possession lead throughout the second half.
Green Canyon 17, Crimson Cliffs 13
Green Canyon scored 10 unanswered points in the second half for a 17-13 win over Crimson Cliffs. Caden Sturart had a 97-yard kick return touchdown that was the Wolves’ first scoring play. A pass from Jack Stevens to Kyle Baker gave Green Canyon the lead and a 42-yard field goal by Caleb Naegle sealed the win.
Corner Canyon 72, Farmington 21
Corner Canyon transfer quarterback Devin Brown made a big impression in his first start as he threw for eight touchdowns as the Chargers steamrolled overmatched Farmington in the opener. Cody Hagen accounted for four of those TD receptions while Jett Meine caught three of his own. Zach Hale added a defensive touchdown in the second half for the Chargers as well.
Pine View 38, Salem Hills 27
Pine View overcame a sluggish first quarter to rally past Salem Hills for the strong season-opening road victory. Keith Adams made a big splash in his Panther debut rushing for three touchdowns, while Ryan Jordan aded a score of his own right before halftime which game Pine View the 21-17 lead. Salem Hills regained the third early in the third quarter, but Pine View’s defense only allowed three points the rest of the way as it pulled away with two quick third-quarter scores.
Roy 57, Jordan 14
The Royals looked tough in their opening game trouncing of Jordan. Quarterback Parker Kingston was dynamic for Roy, scoring six total touchdowns—including two rushing touchdowns of 50 or more yards.
Brighton 49, Pleasant Grove 24
Brighton sophomore quarterback Jackson Johnson had a sizzling debut tossing four touchdown passes as Brighton pulled away from Pleasant Grove in the second half for the victory. Kace Gurr added a rushing and receiving touchdown for the Begals, but the big play of the night belonged to linebacker Lander Barton who returned an interception 95 yards in the second quarter to tie the game 14-14 when it looked like the Vikings were poised to go ahead two scores.
American Fork 60, Granger 0
After creating fireworks in his junior season, American Fork quarterback and Boise State commit Maddux Madsen looked like he hadn’t skipped a beat in the first game of his senior campaign. Madsen finished with five touchdown passes—a total that has become the norm for the electric signal caller—as American Fork secured a dominant season-opening win Friday night.
Davis 21, Lehi 14
Easton Baggett tied the game with a 36-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter and then in overtime Trey Talbot scored the winning touchdown on a seven-yard score as the Darts rallied past Lehi for the win. Baggett finished the game with 16 carries for 119 yards and a score.
Cedar Valley 35, Copper Hills 0
Coach Weston Zabriskie and Cedar Valley kicked off the school’s third football season Friday night and secured a commanding opening night victory over Copper Hills. Running back Easton Schank had a strong game for the Aviators, scoring three total touchdowns, while Payton Weber passed for two scores.
Bingham 55, Weber 35
After falling behind 28 points, Weber attempted to mount a furious comeback with 21 unanswered points in the second quarter, but Bingham outlasted the attempt from the Warriors and finished with a season-opening win. Bingham quarterback Dallen Martinez made the most of his opportunities, scoring three rushing touchdowns in the game, including an electric 78 yard run on the opening play of the game.
Maple Mountain 55, Mountain View 22
After Mountain View took a 15-14 lead on a second-quarter field goal, Maple Mountain proceeded to score 41 straight points in dominant fashion as it rolled to the victory. Josh Glassford was the star offensively for the Golden Eagles as he rushed for four touchdowns and then also caught another TD on a 59-yard pass from Hunter Bezzant.
South Summit 30, Uintah 20
As teams traded shots throughout the night, it was a strong, 15-0 advantage in the second quarter that eventually gave South Summit the separation it needed to securing the win on opening night. Wildcats quarterback Kyler Sudweeks had a hand in all of South Summit’s touchdowns, two through the air and two on the ground.
Desert Hills 45, San Juan 20
Desert Hills scored four straight touchdowns in the first half, effectively pulling away from visiting San Juan en rourte to the convincing opening-night win. Noah Fuailetolo rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another, while Awsten Turbow added a defensive score in the fourth quarter to cap the victory.
Ridgeline 29, Bonneville 16
A 14-point advantage in the third quarter was what Ridgeline needed secure to spoil Bonneville’s home opener. Noah White finished with two rushing touchdowns for the Riverhawks, including a electric 52 yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Logan 20, Viewmont 16
Logan’s 12-0 second half secured a win over Viewmont. Matthew Mason ran wild for the Grizzlies, recording three rushing touchdowns — 41 yards, 38 yards and 5 yards.
Manti 19, Union 7
The Templar defense popped-off in their opening game of the season, smothering Union and limiting them to just seven points. Keegan Strickland caught the game-icing touchdown pass from Kayson Douglas late in the fourth quarter and gave Manti its first “W” of the season.
Hurricane 28, Richfield 26
Hurricane junior quarterback Carter Ashby tossed three touchdowns, including two to RJ Wright, and then Hunter Prince returned a kickoff 90 yards to end the first quarter as the Tigers held off a late rally by Richfield for the victory. Hurricane led 28-13 late in the third quarter, but Richfield battled back and nearly tied the game but it missed a two-point conversion attempt with 2:23 left in the fourth quarter. Toryen Haynes sealed the win with a last-second interception for Hurricane.
Morgan 39, Bear River 5
Nick Despain threw two touchdown passes, caught by Gavin Turner and Jaxon Whiting, and rushed for another as Morgan’s defense stood strong and only allowed five points.
