Two of the winningest high school football coaches in state history were honored Friday night during Juan Diego’s 52-30 win over Skyline.

Retired coaches Roger Dupaix and John Colosimo are tied with a state record eight state championships, and when their former teams squared off Friday, they were recognized for their longtime contributions to high school football in Utah.

Dupaix was a head coach in Utah for 35 years, while Colosimo coached for 32 years.

Dupaix coached Highland from 1977 to 1985 and then Skyline from 1986 to 2011. His all-time coaching record stands at 301-112, with all his state titles coming at Skyline.

His 301 wins are 63 more than second-place in the record books, Bountiful’s Larry Wall, who stands at 238.

Colosimo ranks fourth all-time in victories with 234, with his all-time coaching record at 234-134.

He coached at Judge Memorial from 1985 to 1996 and then at Juan Diego from 2000 to 2019. All eight of his state titles came at Juan Diego, including a three-peat from 2015-2017.

Incredibly, despite over two decades coaching simultaneously in the Salt Lake valley, they only met once, and it was in Dupaix’s final year of coaching in 2011.

Skyline won 27-17.
