Who is Devin Brown? New Corner Canyon QB, USC commit throws 8 TDs in two quarters in Utah debut

After just one half of play, it appears that the Corner Canyon Chargers have their next great quarterback.

On Friday night in Corner Canyon’s season opener, Devin Brown, a USC commit who transferred during the offseason from Arizona, threw eight touchdown passes in just two quarters as the Chargers beat Farmington 72-21.

Who is Devin Brown?

Brown played his sophomore and junior seasons at Queen Creek High in Arizona. On Sept. 19 of last year, he announced that he had committed to play collegiately for the USC Trojans.

In June of this year, the Arizona Republic’s Richard Obert reported that Brown would be transferring to Corner Canyon High in Utah.

Elite 11

Brown is now ranked as the No. 11 quarterback prospect in the country for the Class of 2022, according to 247 Sports. That ranking is on the heels of Brown’s performance at the Elite 11 Finals earlier this summer in California, a competition that annually includes the best senior signal caller prospects in the country.

“I thought, coming in, he was a little bit of an unknown,” 247 Sports’ Brandon Huffman said after the competition. “I mean, he was a guy who was committed to USC, so it’s hard to be committed to USC and an unknown, but he had average season in his junior year in Arizona.

“I see Devin Brown continuing his rise after his Elite 11 regional performance got him a fourth star...Devin Brown, for me, was probably my favorite quarterback after (Clemson commit Cade) Klubnik as well.”

Is Devin Brown the next Corner Canyon QB great?

Zach Wilson, Cole Hagen and Jaxson Dart have all put up gaudy passing numbers for Corner Canyon over the past few years and signed with BYU, Yale and USC, respectively, out of high school.

Wilson, of course, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, while Dart won the Gatorade National Player of the Year for his performance last season.

Already, Brown has some interesting ties to both Wilson and Dart beyond the fact that they’ve now all attended the same high school.

Many thought Wilson’s younger brother Isaac was primed to be Corner Canyon’s starting quarterback this season even though he is just a sophomore, as he already holds a number of scholarship offers, so there was some question as to Brown’s fit at Corner Canyon (Isaac Wilson played the second half Friday and threw a touchdown pass).

As for Dart, like Brown, he transferred to the Draper school for his senior season after previously being at Roy High. In 2020, Dart burst onto the scene, throwing for 67 touchdowns against just four interceptions.

Friday night

Brown got going early, finding Cody Hagen (Cole’s younger brother and a top recruit in his own right) for a 4-yard score with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter. Brown tossed three more touchdowns in the opening frame and another four in the second before making way for Isaac Wilson as Corner Canyon led Farmington 65-14 at halftime.

In all, Brown’s eight touchdowns tied for third with three others in Utah state history for most touchdown passes in a game, just two behind former Lehi signal caller Cammon Cooper, who is now at Washington State.
